Features

The Development Profiling Tool enables early years teachers to put targeted support in place by a child’s second term in school.

Bridging the gaps

Many children begin school with underlying developmental differences that aren’t immediately visible through everyday teaching. These children often “fly under the radar,” appearing to meet early milestones but struggling with focus, coordination, or learning.

Existing tools, such as the Early Years Foundation Stage Profile (EYFSP), measure what a child can do, but not how they reach those milestones.

The Development Profiling Tool was created to bridge this gap — helping teachers understand the sensory and motor foundations that underpin learning, rather than relying solely on observable outcomes.

Pyramid of Learning

Pyramid of Learning by Taylor and Trott

The Development Profiling tool is based on Taylor & Trott’s Pyramid of Learning, which shows the stages of sensory and motor skill development that are foundational for the more complex activity of academic learning.

The training provides a concise, structured introduction to these key developmental concepts to support informed observation, so teachers can look closely at each of the pyramid stages when observing and making judgements on a child’s learning.

Actionable assessment

Using activities that are already in the early years curriculum, the Early Years Compass makes it easy to intergrate assessment into day to day teaching.

The areas of assesment :

Auditory Skills

Sensory Responsivity: Internal Senses

Sensory Responsivity: External Senses

Visual Perception

Coordination: Fine Motor

Coordination: Gross Motor
